Years ago, while working in a public school supporting student literacy, I—like so many educators across the country—faced one of the greatest challenges of my career: We had to pivot to remote teaching overnight as schools shut down for more than a year. My fellow teachers and I scrambled to adapt. We didn’t want to let our students down. I spent countless hours creating and modifying resources, teaching my young readers from my living room. It was exhausting, but worth every minute to ensure my students still had access to quality instruction. Even after students returned to the classroom, I kept teaching online—building and sequencing digital lessons to save time and focus more fully on what mattered most: teaching.
